REBOUND QUALITY AND PLAYING EXPERIENCE

The rebound is an essential element of table tennis because, in addition to player skill, it is a major factor in the quality of rallies. According to international federation guidelines, when a regulation ball is released from a height of 30 cm, its rebound must be around 23 cm. In competitions, the tables used have a rebound that is more like 26 cm. Two main criteria influence the height of a rebound: the material of the playing surface and its thickness. The indoor playing surfaces produced by Cornilleau are made using chipboard, while outdoor tables use solid-core laminate. To achieve competition-level rebounds with chipboard, you need a panel thickness of between 22 and 25 mm. Similar rebounds on a solid-core laminate panel will require a thickness of 8 to 9 mm. For outdoor tables, a solid-core laminate (HPL) panel of 5 mm offers good rebounds. It is very difficult for the casual player to see a difference in rebound quality between outdoor tables with panels of 5, 6 or 7 mm thicknesses.

LESS GLARE FOR GREATER PLAYING COMFORT

To improve outdoor playing experience and keep the sun from reflecting off the playing surface and blinding players, Cornilleau has developed anti-glare surfaces: Softmat, which reduces glare off the playing surface by a factor of 3, and Mattop, which reduces it by a factor of 10. All tables in the Sport range are equipped with Softmat playing surfaces, and those in the Performance range are equipped with Mattop surfaces.
